missionary Baptist church
Rev. Steven J. Caldwell,
New Providence Missionary Baptist Church was founded October 4, 1960 at 8pm at the YMCA building on NW 58th Street and 15th Avenue. Reverend C.J. Burney became the founding Pastor of New Providence Missionary Baptist Church. The church was organized with a membership of 376. As the years passed, the church grew spiritually, financially and increased in membership and auxiliaries.
Reverend C.J. Burney retired after twenty-three (23) years in 1983. He preached his retirement sermon, “Thanks A Million!” the first Sunday in November 1983. The church then called Reverend James Walthour, a son who had served diligently from 1960 to pastor this church.
Reverend James Walthour served faithfully as Pastor until the Lord called him home in January 1998. On April 30, 1998 Reverend Johnnie F. McGregor was called to pastor this great church and was installed on Sunday, July 12, 1998. Pastor McGregor served faithfully for three years and two months until his health failed and the Lord called him to his eternal home on September 6, 2001.
On July 25, 2002, Reverend Vinson Davis was elected as the Pastor where he served faithfully as for eight (8) years, preaching and teaching God’s Word.
On October 20, 2011, Reverend Steven J. Caldwell was elected as Pastor and installed on Sunday, December 4, 2011, where he is currently the Pastor.
